On the supply chain side, deeper China-New Zealand construction cooperation should help stabilise prices and lead times for imported building materials, though NZD volatility and local compliance costs remain variables for margins.

At the same time, large Chinese contractors entering the local market could sharpen competition for SMEs in residential and subcontracting work. NZ SMEs would do well to watch for SME subcontracting quotas in government infrastructure projects, and to build direct procurement relationships with Chinese suppliers to hedge costs.
