Commentary
The China–New Zealand Business Council meeting provides a direct dialogue platform for enterprises from both countries, with a particular focus on the entire agricultural value chain and green services trade. New Zealand small and medium-sized enterprises should note the role of Yili as the Chinese chair unit, given its deep presence in New Zealand's dairy industry, such as its Oceania dairy base, which reflects continued Chinese capital interest in New Zealand's primary industries. The first thematic session, on two-way cooperation across the entire agricultural value chain, offers New Zealand agricultural technology and food processing companies an opportunity to enter the Chinese market, but they should be mindful of China's import food regulations and local competition.
The second session emphasises low-carbon and the digital economy. New Zealand has experience in emissions trading and clean technology and can explore cooperation with China in areas such as carbon credits and smart agriculture. However, New Zealand companies need to assess policy risks and intellectual property protection issues in the Chinese market.
With about 150 participants, the business matchmaking segment may provide specific cooperation leads. New Zealand companies interested in attending are advised to contact the New Zealand–China Trade Association for participation details and to prepare targeted proposals.
