Oxford Workshop II: Universities and Their Social Role — Notice

Summary

The High-Level International Talent Training Innovation Practice Programme has issued a notice for its 2026-2027 winter overseas international organisation practice training camp. The Australia-New Zealand ESG and International Organisation Training Camp focuses on international organisation practice and ESG sustainable development, with a route covering Sydney, Auckland and Rotorua. Participants will visit UNICEF Australia, the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), the New Zealand Asia Foundation (ANZF) and the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust (MTSCT), gaining insight into how international organisations respond to global sustainable development issues through child development, social inclusion, regional cooperation and environmental protection, and building a systematic understanding of ESG across environmental, social and governance dimensions.

The programme also includes volunteer animal conservation work at the Australian Reptile Park, classes at the University of New South Wales and Auckland University of Technology, and a visit to Hobbiton. The camp runs for 15 days from 20 January to 4 February 2027, with 13 days spent overseas in person. Instruction is in English, and the programme is open to students interested in global governance and planning to study abroad or intern at international organisations.

On completion, participants receive official certificates from international organisations, a University of New South Wales course certificate and an animal conservation volunteer certificate issued by the Australian Animal Association. Outstanding participants may receive recommendation letters from United Nations officials and targeted referrals for international organisation internships. The fee is RMB 49,800 per person, including a RMB 3,000 registration fee, RMB 35,000 programme fee and RMB 11,800 for overseas transport, accommodation and insurance.

Students from universities using the high-level programme's foundational content pay a registration fee of RMB 39,800 per person, with a RMB 10,000 per person scholarship reduction.

Commentary

The camp centres on ESG and international organisation practice, linking Sydney, Auckland and Rotorua, visiting institutions such as UNICEF Australia and the New Zealand Asia Foundation, and incorporating university courses and ecological conservation volunteering. For NZ SMEs, it is more than an education product: it reflects how ESG capability is becoming a new threshold for entry into global supply chains. New Zealand has strengths in sustainable agriculture and clean technology, but SMEs generally lack a systematic ESG narrative.

Talent trained through such programmes may later join international organisations or multinational procurement departments, and their ESG awareness will influence supplier selection. NZ SMEs should proactively engage with local universities and industry bodies to turn environmental practices into verifiable ESG data rather than marketing rhetoric. At the same time, with the programme fee nearing RMB 50,000 and targeting high-net-worth Chinese families, NZ education providers could develop lightweight short ESG courses to capture spillover demand.
