Summary
As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, New Zealand's Zespri gold kiwifruit has become a popular gift choice. The article introduces its sweet taste and nutritional value, and offers buying tips: choose fruit that is plump, smooth-skinned, and slightly soft to the touch. The current market average price is approximately NZD 49.9 per box, with sales volume up 50.4% year-on-year, highlighting strong holiday consumption.
The producing region of New Zealand is enjoying a good harvest, ensuring stable supply. Consumers should store the fruit away from light and prioritise purchasing Zespri-certified products.
Commentary
In the Dragon Boat Festival gift market, Zespri gold kiwifruit, with its premium positioning and health attributes, is becoming a standout holiday hit for SME owners. For New Zealand exporters, this consumption boom is directly driving upstream order growth, especially as rising demand from China's second-tier cities may open up new distribution channels. However, competition is quietly intensifying — domestic organic kiwifruit brands are vying for market share through price wars, and Zespri needs to strengthen its brand story to maintain its premium.
On the retail side, small fresh food e-commerce platforms can capitalise on the trend by launching Dragon Boat gift boxes paired with other imported fruits to boost average transaction value; physical stores, meanwhile, need to manage cold chain costs carefully to avoid inventory spoilage. Over the long term, if consumers' 'holiday dependency' on imported fruit becomes entrenched, SMEs could consider signing quarterly supply agreements with Zespri to lock in price fluctuation risks. But caution is needed regarding the impact of exchange rate changes and shipping timeliness on the supply chain; it is advisable to reserve a 10% buffer stock.
